BEIJING — The Association of Innovation Technology Finance and Marketing (AITFM), led by its president Jacky Sit, recently concluded a high-level visit to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and COFCO Technology & Industry in Beijing to advance cooperation on self-propelled integrated biomass processing technology. The collaborative talks focused on disrupting traditional, low-efficiency agricultural processing to support carbon neutrality goals and expand international green trade.
The discussions centered on technological innovation, carbon reduction efficiencies, and global market expansion for biomass energy. The mobile, integrated processing technology under review is designed to compress crop stalks into high-density pellets directly in the field, eliminating conventional, redundant stages such as baling, storage, and long-distance transport. As international regulations—particularly within the European Union—drive up demand for high-value green energies like sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and green methanol, this technology is positioned to play a critical strategic role in recycling global agricultural waste. Industry estimates suggest the global biomass market will approach $1 trillion by 2030, with each ton of processed crop stalk reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 1.2 tons.
A key focus of the meeting was leveraging the technology's substantial cost advantages and profit margins—which exceed 50%—to accelerate the development and industrial commercialization of second-generation self-propelled integrated machinery. As a domestic pioneer in this space, the technology targets a market shortage of high-quality pellets eligible for power plant subsidies. Beyond agricultural stalks, the machinery can be flexibly deployed to process urban green waste, discarded logistics pallets, and nutshells, significantly improving project financing prospects and commercial operational efficiency.
The exchange aims to deepen the strategic layout of biomass technology across both domestic and overseas markets by combining the scientific innovation of CAS and the industrialization capabilities of COFCO Technology & Industry. Moving forward, the collaborative teams intend to pursue international opportunities across Southeast Asia. In countries such as Cambodia and Malaysia, where agricultural burning severely impacts air quality, the partners plan to explore diverse business models to deploy high-value, green environmental projects.
