Chinese Academy of Sciences and AITFM Explore Southeast Asia and Global Expansion Opportunities for Smart Mushroom Factories

10 Apr 2026

BEIJING — In a major push to advance the international strategic layout and economic-trade exchange of its smart Agaricus bisporus (button mushroom) factory project, a delegation led by Jacky Sit, Chairman of the Association of Innovation Technology Finance and Marketing (AITFM), conducted in-depth visits to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and COFCO Technology & Industry in April 2026.

The parties held comprehensive strategic discussions focusing on smart agriculture, global logistics deployment, and innovative investment return mechanisms. As a core demonstration of modern agricultural transformation and industrial upgrading, the project has secured top-tier technical backing from expert teams at CAS and COFCO Engineering & Technology. It integrates cutting-edge Dutch Phase III composting technology and features the full deployment of the SARS smart management platform.

Positioned as a key player in the international food trade, the project team is capitalising on critical strategic opportunities driven by structural supply shortages in the industrialised button mushroom market. Localised expansion is already underway across four major regions. Notably, the project plans to leverage the logistics advantages of the China-Europe Railway Express to transform its Tacheng base in Xinjiang into a major new export hub directly serving international markets.

A key focus of the talks centered on utilising highly optimised "government-enterprise co-investment" capital structures. This approach aims to assist partners in efficient resource allocation, drive rural industrial diversification, and implement high-standard ecological circular economies. Ultimately, the framework is designed to support the project over its next five-year strategic phase as it consolidates its core position in green supply chains across international markets, including Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

The initiative aims to deepen the integration between cutting-edge agricultural technology and global capital markets. By combining the technical expertise of CAS and COFCO Technology & Industry with mature international commercial networks, the collaboration looks to drive long-term economic diversification and sustainable development. The project team will continue to advance these partnerships to accelerate the global rollout of high-value, green agricultural initiatives.
