February 2026 — The representative of the Global Finance Committee of the Association of Innovation Technology Finance and Marketing (AITFM) recently visited Oman Airports Management Company and held in-depth discussions with Acting Chief Executive Officer Mr. Nasser Al Sharji.
The two parties exchanged views on the current global logistics situation and focused on Oman’s strategic positioning within the global supply chain, particularly its potential as a gateway to East Africa. Oman possesses a maritime trading history spanning over a millennium. In the 19th century, it established a prosperous empire across the Indian Ocean, controlling coastal regions in East Africa including Zanzibar, and served as a vital bridge connecting the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. This historical legacy provides a solid foundation for Oman’s current role in strengthening its position as a regional air cargo hub. The meeting also explored future development directions for the Muscat Old Airport facilities, including feasible plans to transform the site into a modern logistics and trade centre.
The visit aims to leverage the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between China and Oman, introducing innovative technology and financial expertise to support aviation logistics and economic diversification under Oman Vision 2040. The Global Finance Committee will continue to advance relevant cooperation, assisting Oman in becoming an efficient and intelligent air cargo hub for the Middle East and East Africa region.
